April Fool published with Xlibris

April Fool published with Xlibris
April 1, 2003 Xlibris published my book and it has been a nightmare for the last 16 years! For whatever reason, they kept saying they were no longer selling my book, yet 16 years later I managed to pay full price on Amazon to buy my own book! It came in and it is new yet Xlibris said it was "used" since they pulled it in 2005...then in 2004. They cannot make up their minds or read their own reports? They also managed to put the 13 digit ISBN that came out in 2007 on a book they stopped printing years before, which was not selling according to them.

Refuse to give me a refund.

I gave them $791 to publish my work. The editor said that they could not publish my work as is. It is a memoir. They said that I can't use real names. How can you write a memoir without using real names? There is nothing defamatory. I have sent them 10 emails with no reply asking to be released from the contract.

Ignoring Refund Request

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In the beginning Xlibris appeared to be very interested in doing business with me! They had workers calling me every few days. I was a bit worried about which package to purchase because I don't have much money. I was abused as a child and have only just got past a lot of trauma and wanted to reward myself for being mentally stable for a while now by publishing a book. I asked if the package was all I needed to pay for - once that was paid was everything taken care of or would there be more costs? I was assured that this was all I needed to do to become a published author and have sales of my book. Well that was great! I paid the for the cheapest package. My publishing consultant signed me up for a monthly subscription to an author learning center even though I told her I didn't have any more money to pay for anything. She told me I wouldn't be charged unless she let me know first. Well a month later I got a direct debit declined and it was from the learning center. I cancelled the membership but this is around the time *** began. The people calling me began changing. Someone else each time who didn't know anything about the last person who called. Always asking for money, wanting over $1000 for advertising, otherwise my book would be published but no one would ever see it. I was told over the phone someone would edit my work as part of my package but now they wanted me to pay more for that. I requested a refund over three months ago. Ever since then they stopped calling me and when I call an operator they say that no one is available. The operators won't even let me speak to their managers because 'no one is here ma'am' every time I call. I have called many MANY times and no one is there. I have left multiple messages. No one is responding to my emails. They even refused to let me speak to the satisfaction department to make a complaint. They flat out have stolen money off me when I realized their vanity publishing was just about siphoning money out of vulnerable people. I have lost closer to the $1000 through this company and should I mention international phone costs??? I saved up for this and now I can't use the money on getting my work published elsewhere until I save up again or get my money back. This was meant to be a step forward in my life. A celebration of everything I've overcome. Now I don't have a published book and am a LOT poorer. I guess vulnerable people will always be exploited. If you want to publish through them I have one word of advice. Don't.

Bad service by Xlibris

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They did not edit my book properly! When I asked, why? She said my manuscript had too many errors in it! lol I was also told that I could price my book, Night Signs, then told me latter that the book would be sold for $21.00 and that was just how it was going to be! They also withdrew money out of my bank account without my permission! Stay clear of them!!!

DO NOT SIGN THEIR CONTRACT

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

"Do Not Sign Their Contract"

I repeat, "Do Not Sign Their Contract"

It's a horror.

It's a nightmare that looks like it is going to go on forever.

It is a CRIME what they are doing.

And it is extremely displeasing to know that this company can just keep continuing to RIPOFF the Public!!!

It is absolutely insane and there is nothing that anyone can do.

Lawyers can't even fight against this company and be successful.

People who were victims can not even fight against this company.

They have bullet proofed everything.

They are a Successful, Unprofessional, SCAMMING Corporation that just keeps getting away with their CORRUPTION!!!

I was treated the same. Beware of this company!

They are up to no good! My book has not been published and they are still keeping my initial payment of $199. To date, I have not received any refund and they have not contacted me by Email and phone.

Please beware of this company!!!! Essentially they went back on their word and kept my money and did nothing with regard to the publication of my book!!!!!!!

Bjogus Content Evaluations;

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After a down payment of over $400, Xlibris Content Evaluators rejected my manuscript 3 times citing bogus libelous or privacy issues. I revised the manuscript two times based on their vague description of the issues. When they rejected the third revision, I requested cancellation of my contract and a refund. instead, they hit my debit card account for another $384. On my next call to company, I was told that my refund was being processed. I have since called or emailed at least five times inquiring about the status of my refund request. Those calls have gone unanswered.

Well said! Beware of Xlibris, the company is a hoax!

They have $199.00. Simply put they are yet to refund my hard earned money. Do not sign their contract since they have nothing to offer in return.

Find another reliable publisher. Xlibris has to be aware that they cannot continue to defraud innocent victims!

The company went back on its word

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I contacted one of the officials Kevin Black and he assured me that I will be charged $515.00 for the publication of my book. I submitted my manuscript and after the initial payment of $199.00 another official (Mr. Laguna) from the company contacted me and said I will have to pay an extra amount of $199.00 to continue with the publication. I told them that was not part of the agreement. I told them to refund my money to no avail. I have contacted Mr.Black and Mr. Laguno and they have refused to refund my money. Beware!

They don't take responsibility for proof reading---font check.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I did another review where I was pleased with all the fonts. Sign the approval. I receive my copy, there was a significant mistake where the font was at least 4 font sizes smaller that the rest of the book and largely spaced. I complained about and their standard response was "...but sir you signed off on it...." I retorted by saying the introduction font I signed off was not that size and spaced when I signed off. I just can't believe anyone with any competence would not question this mistake. Provided them a software copy of the book coupled with the signed document. I basically had them by the throat which had the problem elevated to Xlibris' parent company---which corrected it. But the damage was done because the book was dispersed to the public--which doesn't do very well to my reputation being a first time author. But "we" were able to hold production until the latest corrected version was completed then dispersed!! After that incident, I don't trust them anymore. I currently have one marketing product that one of the marketing dummies kept hounding me on---but that's the last one!! Bitterly disappointed!!

This is what we are currently experiencing. Fonts and photos are not appropriate; have been through about 10 "associates" who do not implement our changes.

They have no professional editors or copy editors there and make the system of writing a short, non-fiction children's history book impossible. What a shame.....Then they want a price point higher than Michelle Obama's book.

My book, although quite relevant will not sell. Scam.

One of their authors commissioned me to do the artwork for his book cover.. Stupid me didn't make him sign a contract, as friends and such... Now he and his publisher are using the illustration illegaly and guess what, the publisher gives a *** about this.. I've tried to contact them several times about this since early January... No replies on the matter, just the usual "mail to the customer service or give us a call"... All this while the author is threatening me to have xlibris drag me(!!!) to court...

Deceitful

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have published at Xlibris 3 times. The staff is so kind until they secure your money. I have been a victim of them promoting marketing opportunities and they call you to death until they get you to say yes to whatever they say they have going on then u are left out of the loop and have to call over and over again to see how things turned out. I have another book to publish and I will not be using them because they act like their customers don't mean anything to them. I signed up for their Million drop carousel and to this date I had to dig around to find out that I didn't get not one sell. Pd. $ 500. dollars for nothing. Then I signed up for their PW marketing strategy pd. $ 1,330. and when I'd call to ck to see how it was going the representatives would talk to me like I was getting on their nerves and never, ever gave me an answer. What a terrible way to treat your customers. I hope the higher ups in the company would see why some of their customers never return.
