Well I've been massively ripped off regarding my book as well. This is all very interesting news. I have been published by Xlibris for my book for around 10 years. I have seen and heard that my book is selling everywhere.. In the 10 years, I've made maybe $75.....

You need to understand vanity publishing is ***. It's for *** people.

It's that simple.

Get a real publisher or don't be dumb. If you pay to publish you will be scammed.

I began my self publishing plans and chose to go with Xlibris because they agreed to give me a free upgrade to a higher package that what I had paid for. But I started to do more research and found that I was paying for tons of services that I didn't need and...

A rep tried to goat me into putting out $500.00 for "a time sensitive, promotion" for a book that may be completed by the end of 2017! The conversation went on for over an hour and a half, with me saying several times that I am not putting out the money until I've done my homework.

He stated if I sent the money today the promotion would be good until I was ready to publish.

When I requested that in writing (email) he quickly changed gears stating he couldn't guarantee that it would still be available to me after today. Red flag!

When I declined the offer wanting to check out reviews, and checking with the BBB he became rather defensive and borderline rude. A definite red flag for me!

Now, after reading all the negative reviews I've emailed the company asking to have me removed from their calling list, as well as their email list. I feel like I dodged that bullet!

At almost every step in the publishing process, I found Xlibris to be slow to respond and the work that they provided to be disappointing. The book, finally published in hard copy and paperback on July 20th, is STILL not available in e-book format almost two months...

I have found that Xlibris was fine in getting the books, I have a 2-book deal with them, out to the public. But unless you are willing to invest aq lot of money in THEIR advertising and promotion schemes, little will come of your effortsw.

I have 2 more books ready to go and will actively seek an author rep for that purpose. I know what I will be getting if a pub wants the book.

I've recently been scammed by these b@stards as well.

BTW, I noticed you wrote they've kept phoning you wanting your "fist payment" (instead of "first payment") I'd like to give them a "fist" payment myself, haha!

Xlibris in Cape Town, Western Cape - Authorhouse scamming new writers!

New authors should be warned not to submit manuscripts to these scammers. Their literary rights will be infringed in every way and they will have no recourse, because my attorneys have said that they are like looking for the Loch Ness monster. Writers, do not lose your rights to your own work! I can show you how to publish your own work without using these rip-off agents. Remember that ISBNs are issued free, so what is to stop you from boycotting these *** and registering yourself as a PUBLISHER and finding a cheap printer and bookbinder. WAKE UP NOW and boycott people who are prepared to make a quick and easy buck out of YOUR HARD-EARNED money. Do all of your own work properly and effectively send all scammers to ***... With my compliments. Francisco Panaino

Its just a shame! Unless you have the money to start your own rip off scam company, you will forever only be a victim of them.

Every service offered online promising to help you is a rip off. I'm a firm believer!

The internet has been taken over by pompous, permiscuous, "look at me", nerdy thieves! Don't be a sheepish consumer!!!!!

they tell you only a few books sold. but i don't believe that to be true.

i no many many people, this is my first book. book one, and working on book two now.they always call you and want more and more money. we are talking 1.000 up to 10.0000 its crazy they keep taking your money and you never see nothing in return.it was my own fought for not checking into them more and trusting them on my first book. but i no one thing no one is getting book two until i no its for real.

i gave them 1.500 ones. and i gave them 1.0000 for something for barns and noble return. what ever that is, so um just going to look for someone else find a new company for my first book. someone who will see the hard work i did on this book.

i wont give up ever cause its my dream to be a writer and i put my hole heart and soul in my first book, as you see i keep saying its my book. im taking back what is mine.

You didn't "submit to a publishing house" you paid a *** artist vanity "publishing" scam. One has nothing to do with the other.

Real publishers never ever charge authors so you are all fools thinking that you can pay to be published.

They know you are fools and that is why they scam you. They are still disgusting though

Quite simply, Xlibris is a fraudulent, dishonest and incompetent, disaster zone. Xlibris is nothing more than a quick-buck scam printer, posing as a "print-on-demand publisher", and it has one of the highest complaints percentages for a small business of it's type...

My own experience has brought me to the conclusion that they are all criminals. My request for sales details and royalty calculations met with complete silence for two years.

Finally, it was delivered. On examination, it did not mention a number of books that I know were sold through Amazon (UK) including 5 nos that I bought directly from Amazon without bothering to buy at an 'author's discount'. Fraud! Then two days later I received a letter informing me that 30% will be deducted to cover US income tax and that a 50% 'fine' would be imposed by the US government because I hadn't registered as a 'taxpayer'.

Would such money withheld ever be passed on to the US government? Perhaps the US government is in on the fraud as well. Just think. why would an author, British, living in Thailand, dealing with Xlibris in the Philippines and Australia, write a book about a British institution that would only sell in Britain have to pay 30% tax to the American government?

During the dozens and dozens of calls that I received from their sales people, I was not once warned about a 30% Government Tax.

I have just been told by an Xlibris sales person that I pay tax because I am dealing with an American company. I now know that in future, I should never deal with an American company.
