Unprofessional, poor editing and customer service, lies, unresponsive to customer questions and complaints.

I did most of the editing work, they did nothing!!! No suggestions or advice. They simply wanted me to do the work that I had paid them to do, so they could print my book and be rid of me. They made changes after I approved the editing and was never informed of those changes and saw them after the book was published.

Flat sales from day one and brick and mortar bookstores won't touch either me or my book.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
5-star reviews on Amazon. One hard cover was so badly worn after a trip through the LGBT community that I had to replace it. It was well-loved. In 6 years, about 15 dollars in royalties. Frequent phone calls for money to promote my book. Still no sales. Media won't touch me or my book for promotion because it's "self-published. My e-book disappeared off of Amazon. My website only does X libris books. There are more used copies of my book for sale than my total sales. My readers say the book changed their lives, but I can't get the book into the hands of readers because X libris charges top dollar for every bit of promotion.

Pros:
  • Finished book looks great
Cons:
  • Being mislead

Preferred solution: Give 4 copies to editors at Random House and give it the treatment it deserves as a groundbreaking transgender work and put me on the talk shows to promote it.

User's recommendation: Go with Kindle and Barnes and Noble if you are in a hurry to get printed copies. Take a printed copy to an agent and autograph it for him or her. Don't take no for an answer!

Feedback/MONEY?

Well my review of the situation is how much time I put in to making this work I typed every line that I originally wrote. I want to be proud of my book publishing company but when I call and get treated like I had nothing to do with making this happen it frustrates me.I know my book is selling I would like the money for all the copies my book has sold, the agreed amount in the contract I signed to have my book published.I would love some feedback from my book, just to see what readers thought of my poetry book of rhyme. You have my whole book on display for free, readers read all of my work for free why would they pay for something that they can get for Free? If I am not mistaking I have a right to set the price of my book as the author in the contract that I signed at least that is what I was told by A Reno James at the time.I would like to set the price of my book titled FROM THE STREETS TO THE PEN AND BACK OUT AGAIN ALWAYS KEEPING GOD WITHIN to $100 and take all but three chapters of my book off of display for samples.I would just like to say thanks for publishing my book I would not have tried this if I didn't think I could turn a dollar I believe in myself help me get paid.

Unhappy with responses from Xlibris

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
There are several things. This is my second book I published with this company. I never got more than a few dollars royalty on the two books I had published with them in 2013 although they were sold on Amazon and world wide. My friend's book is continuing to be sold, but I never got a penny in royalties though I paid he whole cost of the publishing of it. They offered me 1/2 off to publish a second book with them, and I had a manuscript so I took them up on it. Ultimately, they came through with the book I wanted, but I went through *** to get it. Where did it go? To WalMart and ebay. It is selling, but I get no royalties. Worse, they promised me 30 paperback copies and 10 hard bound copies in the contract, and with the first book, I received these copies, and ordered more copies at significantly reduced prices. No more. I got no copies, and an offer to sell me my book at retail price. Now my book is available at a second sell bookstore, and I can no longer get copies at WalMart, and ebay now wants an inflated price.

User's recommendation: This is a company of last resort. Their prices are more affordable than some other self-publishing companies. You can get the book you want, but it is an agonizing process. I got a lot better treatment in 2013 than I did last year. Back then my books were selling on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. And that was a two books for one deal. I can't recommend them.

Dissatisfaction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Xlibris Management.

This is an email that I intend to place on as many social media sites as possible, I am also putting together a list of writer & author organizations in Aust, NZ, UK, US & Canada, that I will email my thoughts to. In my past business life, the adage ''tell ten persons if you have a good time, if you have a bad time tell as many as you can'' comes to mind.

I had the misfortune to engage Xlibris Publishing to publish my novel.

In the beginning there was a flurry of emails, offers and flattering regarding my work, all to convince me to employ them to use their services.

Elli Banning, publishing consultant for the company, was my initial contact, he negotiated the Black & White Professional package down to $988.90, this I accepted.

Two weeks after my initial payment of $396.30, I was told I would need their Editing section to Copy-Edit, this was reluctantly negotiated to additional $683.48.

The moment I paid the instalment, $ 249.49, for this, their debt collection company took $296.30 from my account as a second deduction from the initial $988.90.

From the beginning of my dealings with Mr Banning I stressed that money was not to be taken from my debt card account without my prior consent. I have had to cancel the card due to the Xlibris collection company continually sending demands.

To date Xlibris has taken $987.09.

There has been nothing constructive done in respect to publish my work.

Communication with Xlibris has been nonexistence since I complained regarding the quality of the Copy-Editing sent to me for approval, twice.

There has been no relevant work done in respect to my novel.

Xlibris now will not respond to my emails, I guess they consider their profit has been made.

All I ever wanted, was to have my work professionally published, Xlibris has turned my dream into a nightmare.

A real turd in the punchbowl

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I self-published with Xlibris 3 years ago for my very first little childrens book. Yay me right? There are a COUPLE of nuggets of quality to be found within the company, but as a whole they are an undeniably putrid avalanche of sewerage. Here's a few highlights; -The draft copy of the finished book they sent me for review was shaded so impossibly dark that it was illegible, then they wanted me to pay to have it changed and only caved when I stood my ground. -They conveniently left out the total price of their advertising fees while I was getting set up. Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars for Facebook ads, yeah no thanks. -They are RELENTLESS with their upselling phone calls. I have literally screamed at them to *** off multiple times and some lowly office peon will still call me within a month and ask in broken English if I want to buy another package. -General disorganization and amateurish production permeating every layer of the publication process. Things get forgotten, things get lost, its constant. One thing I'll say in their favor is that there is at least one passable artist trapped somewhere in their dungeons. The art I had created was pretty spot on in depicting what I described and there was very little change needed after seeing the first rough sketches. I hope they give that artist an extra big bucket of fish heads the next time they are handing out lunch in whatever abandoned Guatemalan prison they must operate out of.

  • Extremely agressive monetisation approach

I recently renewed my website (www.budhunton.com) and it stopped working about a week or so ago. I was using the site to market my two books "Leaving Home" and "Navy Blue" After repeatedly calling and emailing Marketing Services, nothing has changed and I have asked for a full refund of $129.00. This is the latest of several issues with Xlibris.

My book was published in 2012. Have never received anything.

Royalties always say 0. Really? 0 in 12 years? Then why is it selling around the world in different languages?

Why does it have 3 pages of Google when I search it up?

So many unanswered questions. Someone is making money from my book and it's not me!

We have been scamed by xlibris

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We published a book years ago, and we never seen a penny of it. The book being sold out in various parts of the world, and we have a lot of friends and family members to buy the book, and they sent a report for only 3 books sold. We cancel the contract with them 3 years ago, and they're still selling the book, and taking the book to expos. They are the worse, they are thieves, and still people's dream, and I just wish they find somebody to make it pay all they are doing.
